For almost 20 years, I have been busy advising the financial services, capital markets, and payment services sector. I have worked for or represented banks, asset managers/UCITs schemes, investment firms, public listed companies, payment/financial institutions, and REITs. I have been responsible for their licensing operations, client documentation sets, new product legal assessments, restructurings, IPOs, shares splits, OTC derivatives documentation, and regulatory updates. Over the last decade, the larger part of my clients consists of technology/software companies, digital/internet services providers, and business clients who are digitising their services.
I am comfortable with the legal issues typically experienced by cloud providers and e-traders, and their clients. My areas of expertise have expanded to various aspects of industrial property (esp. technology-related), the legal challenges of big data management, text and data mining, data protection, and artificial intelligence. I am experienced in navigating companies in the increasingly complex field of consumer law in the digital market, e-commerce, electronic identity, e-evidence, paytech, fintech, platform regulation, and general regulation of digital services.
I am listed as a leading individual in the Chambers banking / financial and corporate/commercial sectors.
Some other notable pieces of work: I was the key contact for Tishman International's operations in Bulgaria over the course of 10 years, and assisted them on the due diligence and acquisition of their A-class investments, among which – the LEED-certified logistics and business park Sofia Airport Center and throughout the cycle of its development, operations, and management, the joint venture with General Electric, full letting, multiple financing rounds and subsequent exit to Revetas Capital in an approx. EUR 60M shares deal.
I also lead a team of Bulgarian qualified lawyers alongside Linklaters over the course of 3 years advising RWE Power's successful bid to acquire a stake in the joint venture with the National Electricity Company in the second Bulgarian Nuclear Power Plant taking an active part in the comprehensive due diligence process, report drafting and multiple negotiations rounds with the state electricity company and BNP Paribas.
For more than 6 years I was actively involved in the representation of Samsung C&T during their acquisition of multiple land plots all over Bulgaria, due diligence, licensing, building, and operation and maintenance of approx. 50 MW Solar Power plants, negotiations with the regulator over feed-in tariff changes, participation in the balancing energy market, largest syndicated project financing in Bulgaria for 2016, and subsequent exit to a joint venture between the German investment fund KGAL and Portanero.
I am a member of the International Technology Law Association and IAPP (CIPP/e-certified) and I hold an LL.M degree (distinction) at the Queen Mary London University in Technology, Media and Communications.
I am a registered EUIPO representative and a Bulgarian industrial property representative with the Patent Office.
Besides my native Bulgarian and English, I have a C1 level in German and working knowledge in Russian.
